A SEASON TO REMEMBER FOR APPLEDARK STUD

29 Aug 2017

North Yorkshire Breeder, Norma Grubb (Appledark Irish Draughts) is enjoying another successful year with her home bred horses.

Appledark Magic Touch (Merlin) a Pure Bred Irish Draught gelding, by Skip and Sea ex Appledark Finishing Touch, born 2009, started the 2017 season as he intended to continue when he won the HW Hunter class and was Reserve Hunter Champion at North Somerset Show, taking the RIHS ticket.

He followed this by winning the Pure Bred Irish Draught ridden class and was Overall Ridden ID Champion at the Royal Bath and West, qualifying for the Blue Chip & IDHSGB £2000 Challenge.

At the Royal Three Counties,  Merlin took the HOYS ticket in the HW Hunter class in the morning and then was again Overall Irish Draught Ridden Champion in the afternoon!

At the Great Yorkshire Show, in a very strong ID ridden class of 19, he was pulled in first, eventually finishing 2nd.

Merlin's dam, Sian  (Appledark Finishing Touch) by Touch of the Blues x Thumb Lady, has produced two other Champions. Merlin's older brother, Jethro (Appledark Touch Wood) by Rebelara, was also a prolific winner and Champion in-hand and is a very successful Maxi Cob, finishing 4th at the Great Yorkshire Show this year.

Kira (Appledark Light Touch)  by Appledark Thumbs Up (by Rebelara ex Appledark Stud's Bramhope First Light) has been lightly shown with great success.

She won her section of the Moorbennhall ID Youngstock Challenge at the 2016 National Breed Show, won the 2/3-year-old filly class and was also Female Youngstock Champion.

In 2017, she has been 2nd in the mare class at Hambleton, winner of both the mare class and the Maturity Class at the Northern ID Show and 2nd in a very strong mare class of 11 at the Great Yorkshire Show.

At the National Breed Show she took 3rd in a large Mare of the Future Class and was graded Class 1.

In 2016, at the age of 19, Sian produced another filly by Skip and Sea, a full sister to Merlin, so it will be exciting to see how she performs in 2018.

Sian is a Select Hornby Premium mare (Bronze Merit) with a Gold Merit for her Progeny's successes and a Bronze Merit for her Ridden Progeny.  She is also on the SHBGB head stud book.
