YORKSHIRE SPORT HORSE – AWARDS

Yorkshire Sport Horse present annual awards to the breeders of  Yorkshire-bred horses.  These awards are presented at the Annual Dinner held at Wetherby in November.

The following awards are made at the discretion of the Yorkshire Sport Horse committee taking into account level of competition, number of wins and consistency.

The Katie Bloom Trophy for the Best Sport Horse

This award is presented to the breeder of the best Yorkshire-bred sport horse (eg. eventing, show jumping, dressage, point-to-pointing).

The Katie Bloom Trophy for the Best Show Horse

This award is presented to the breeder of the best Yorkshire-bred show horse (eg. show hunter, show hack, riding horse, cob).

The Baydale Trophy (presented in memory of the late Mrs Sheila Fenwick) for the Best In-hand Show Horse

This award is presented to the breeder of the best Yorkshire-bred in-hand show horse.

The Yorkshire Sport Horse Trophy for the best Yorkshire-bred horse in the Burghley Young Event Horse Finals

This award is presented to the breeder of the best-performing horse at the Burghley Young Event Horse finals.

The following awards are made at the respective shows but are presented at the Annual Dinner:-

The Yorkshire Sport Horse In-Hand Trophy for the best Yorkshire-bred horse at the YSH Summer Show

The Yorkshire Sport Horse Best Yorkshire-bred Broodmare at the Great Yorkshire Show

AWARDS MADE AT QUALIFYING SHOWS

In addition to the above awards, there are two awards for the best Yorkshire-bred foal and yearling, two or three year-old gaining the most points at qualifying shows.  The qualifying shows for these awards are: Otley, Hambleton, Great Yorkshire, Malton, Driffield, Huby and Sutton on Forest, Ryedale and Yorkshire Sport Horse Show (double points awarded at this show only). 

The breeder of the Champion Foal is awarded the Jemoon Trophy and £100 and the breeder of the Reserve is awarded £50.

The breeder of the Champion yearling, two and three year-old is awarded the East Yorkshire Breeders’ Champion Perpetual Trophy and £100 and the breeder of the Reserve is awarded £50.

The above two awards are presented at the Yorkshire Sport Horse Annual Dinner.

Broodmare Vouchers worth £100 and a rosette are awarded in broodmare classes at qualifying shows.  The award is made to the highest-placed mare with own foal at foot, not already having won a voucher.  The owner of the mare to reside in Yorkshire and the Voucher to be used on any currently registered SHB (GB) graded stallion – the voucher to be used within 2 stud seasons following the award.

Breeders’ Premiums (Foals and Youngstock)

Premiums – Foals

£50 and a rosette will be awarded to the Breeder, who must reside in Yorkshire, of the best foal sired by any SHB (GB) Graded Stallion currently registered in the year of covering.

Premiums – Youngstock

£50 and a rosette will be awarded to the Breeder, who must reside in Yorkshire, of the best yearling, two-year old and three-year old sired by any SHB (GB) Graded Stallion registered in the year of covering.

Only one award may be won in one season

Payment

To ensure that the award goes to the Breeder, who may not be the Exhibitor, a postcard will be attached to the rosette awarded at the show.  The winner must complete the details on the postcard (including the name and address of the breeder) and return it, to enable the £50 premium to be sent to the breeder. The show secretary of the qualifying show does not handle any money in connection with this award.
